This mango mojito with rum, fresh mint, lime and mango nectar is the sweet, refreshing cocktail you need in your life. It's easy to make, SO delicious and makes you feel like you're on an island in the sun!

Why we love this recipe

  • Easy to make: you only need a few ingredients and about 10 minutes to whip up a few of these mango mojitos!
  • Sweet and refreshing: mango is naturally pretty sweet, so you don't need to add much more sugar. With fresh lime juice and mint, it's also super refreshing! We also top ours off with sparkling wine for some fizz.
  • Transports you to a tropical island: growing up, we used to have a family luau party in the dead of winter. We'd crank up the heat in the house, get dressed in summer clothes and pretend we were on a beach somewhere sunny. This mango mojito does just about the same thing – no matter how cold it is where you are right now, you can totally pretend you're on an island in the Caribbean!

Ingredients

Here's what you'll need to make this mango mojito:

Ingredient Notes

  • Rum: you can technically use either white or dark rum in this mango mojito. We use white rum mostly to keep the color nice and vibrant (and it's also more traditional). It's also a bit milder in flavor, whereas dark rum tends to have more spice and depth of flavor.
  • Mango nectar: mango nectar is thicker than mango juice and often contains a bit of sugar. We like using it in this recipe because it makes for a richer, slightly sweeter cocktail. It also tends to be easier to find in most grocery stores.
    • You can also use pure mango juice, but you may want to add slightly more agave.
  • Pineapple juice: to lighten up this mojito and add a bit more acidity, we add in a splash of 100% pineapple juice. If you don't have any, feel free to omit and sub with extra mango juice (or sub with a splash of orange juice instead!).
  • Agave syrup is perfect in this mango mojito, but you can also use another liquid sweetener of choice. The next best option would be simple syrup, which you buy or make from scratch (instructions in FAQ section).
  • Club soda or sparkling wine: either option works well to add a bit of fizz to top off the mojito. You could even use sparkling water (I love using this orange mango Spindrift for extra mango flavor!).

Step-by-step instructions

Muddle limes and mint

Add the lime wedges, mint leaves and agave to a cocktail shaker (or a tall glass). Use a cocktail muddler to muddle well, until the lime wedges release most of their juice and the mint is slightly bruised.

The goal here is to release the oils from the mint so the flavor gets dispersed throughout the entire cocktail. You also want to make sure to get all of the juice out of the limes to make sure the cocktail is tart enough.

Shake, shake, shake!

Next, fill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice, then add the mango nectar, pineapple juice and rum.

Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, then strain into a cold glass.

Serve

Top off each cocktail with club soda or sparkling wine. Garnish with extra fresh mint and a lime wedge. Cheers!

Expert Tips & FAQs

  • Make ahead: serving this for a cocktail/dinner party? Increase the quantities of each ingredient to make desired amount and store in a pitcher until ready to serve. Wait to add club soda until just before serving.
    • Pro tip: you can also wait to strain out the mint until just before serving so it has a bit longer to infuse.
  • Serve with:
    • Vegan ceviche
    • Crostini with strawberries and avocado
    • Grilled corn, black bean & avocado salad
What is a cocktail muddler?

A muddler is essentially used like a pestle to mash cocktail ingredients at the bottom of a glass to release their flavors. It's typically used for fruits, herbs and spices.

They're typically made out of wood, stainless steel or stone and have a long thin handle so they can reach the bottom of a tall glass or cocktail shaker.

What can you use in place of a muddler if you don't have one?

A wooden spoon is probably the best alternative. You can also use any kind of wooden dowel or even a traditional mortar and pestle.

How do you make simple syrup?

Combine equal parts water and sugar (we typically use ½ cup of each) in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a low simmer and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool before using.
