These easy, summery blackberry mojitos come together in just a few minutes. It's a simple spin on a classic mojito, with the addition of fresh blackberries for extra freshness and sweetness.
This blackberry mojito recipe was inspired by my recent trip to Miami! I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Fresh Air Retreat with several other wonderful food bloggers and left feeling so inspired and fulfilled.
I'll get into a full recap about the retreat, what we ate and drank, and our fantastic sponsors and hosts, but first things first – let's chat about this blackberry mojito recipe!
I love a good mojito. They're one of the easiest cocktails to make, and they're always refreshing. But this blackberry version takes it up another notch, with the perfect amount of added sweetness for summer.

Blackberry Mojito Ingredients
- Rum: You can technically use either white or dark rum in this blackberry mojito. We use white rum mostly to keep the color nice and vibrant, and it's also more traditional. It's also a bit milder in flavor, whereas dark rum tends to have more spice and depth of flavor.
- We recommend Flor de Caña rum – they were one of our sponsors at Fresh Air Retreat and we have become big fans of their rum! They don't add any sugar or artificial ingredients to their rum, and it's truly the most flavorful rum I've tried.
- Blackberries: Fresh blackberries will be easiest to muddle, but you can also use frozen blackberries – just let them thaw first.
- Mint: Fresh mint is essential in a mojito!
- Lime: You can either slice a whole lime into wedges to add to your mojito for a more traditional presentation, or you can pre-measure the lime juice before adding. (Note: if using lime wedges, be sure to squeeze out as much juice as possible when muddling.)
- Sugar: Regular granulated sugar works well in this mojito, or you can use a liquid sweetener like simple syrup, honey or agave.
- Club soda: You can use club soda or sparkling water to top off this mojito. For extra flavor, you can even use flavored sparkling water, like Spindrift!
How to Make this Blackberry Mojito Recipe
STEP 1:
Add the blackberries, mint leaves, lime juice and sugar to a highball cocktail glass.
STEP 2:
Use a muddler to gently smash and mix together the blackberries and mint. Don't over-muddle, otherwise the mint will become bitter. Add in the rum.
STEP 3:
Fill the glass with ice, then top off with club soda or sparkling water and stir.
Optional: garnish with fresh mint and more blackberries.
Fresh Air Retreat
This blackberry mojito was inspired by my recent trip to Miami for the Fresh Air Retreat!
Fresh Air Retreat is a food blogger retreat organized by two wonderful ladies: Liz Della Croce of The Lemon Bowl and Lauren Grier of The Curious Plate. It was such a great opportunity to connect with other women in this industry, and I left feeling so inspired and rejuvenated.
Other retreat attendees (and now friends!) include:
- MacKenzie Smith - Grilled Cheese Social
- Shannon Epstein - Fit Slow Cooker Queen
- Kylie Mazon-Chambers - Cooking with Cocktail Rings
- Michelle Hoover - Unbound Wellness
- Kim Lee - Kim's Cravings
- Brita Britnell - Food with Feeling
- Aleka Shunk - Aleka's Get-Together
We were also joined by the lovely Amanda Kamppinen, who took all of the photos you see in this post, as well as Chef Trimell Hawkins, who cooked up some truly fantastic breakfasts, lunches and dinners over the week.
Day 1
On Monday, we arrived to beautiful Miami weather and a cocktail hour with one of our sponsors, Flor De Caña rum. This is truly the best rum I've tried – especially the 25-year aged rum.
They don't add any sugar or artificial ingredients, which is a huge plus, and the flavor is unparalleled. We sipped on the aged rum with a dark chocolate pairing, enjoyed a rum espresso martini, and then Chef Trimell made bananas foster that was to die for!
Day 2
I started the day with a very rainy run, followed by a beautiful breakfast spread and a session with Ben of Grocer's List. Grocer's List is an incredible platform for bloggers that allows us to connect with our audience via automated DMs. This makes it much easier to share our recipes and make sure you're getting the link sent straight to your inbox, without any hassle! If you're a food blogger or creator, Grocer's List is a must.
After a few sessions to chat about our businesses, we had a delicious lunch with Minute Rice! We had a build-you-own rice bowl station, with their microwaveable rice cups as the base. My husband and I both absolutely love rice and we've been working our way through our Minute Rice stash very quickly! They're just so easy to use (ready in 60 seconds) and perfect for a quick meal.
We ended the day with an absolutely delicious tasting menu dinner at Serevene with Visit Miami! My personal favorite courses (pictured below):
- A Beet Noodle dish with asian pear, strawberry and carrot and the most delicious green mustard vinaigrette. I don't usually love beets, but this was outstanding and so refreshing!
- Pommes De Terre – the creamiest possible mashed potatoes topped with extra virgin olive oil and lots of chives. This was unreal.
- Pour Le Chocolat – a chocolate souffle with chocolate ganache and 24k gold. I mean, what's not to love?!
Day 3
We had a bit of free time to relax and enjoy the pool (and some much needed sunshine!), and then we ended the trip with a delicious dinner with our last sponsor, CURRENT. We got to try out Current's Electric smart grill, which is perfect for smaller spaces and was so easy to use! No propane needed.
Thank you so much to Liz and Lauren, as well as all of our sponsors for this incredible experience!
Tips and FAQ
Top tip
Don't over-muddle the mint! It's best to apply gentle pressure to the mint, and only mash about 3-4 times. If you muddle too much, the mint will start to taste bitter.
More tips
- What to do if you don't have a muddler: A muddler is essential to making a mojito in order to extract the flavor from the mint and dissolve the sugar. A wooden spoon is probably the best alternative. You can also use any kind of wooden dowel or even a traditional mortar and pestle.
- Chill your cocktail glasses in the freezer while you make your drink to keep it extra cool while sipping. (This is especially handy on a hot summer day!)
- Mojitos are traditionally served in a highball glass. It's typically served on the rocks with a straw.
