Yep, this Prosecco Limoncello Spritz is just 3 simple ingredients!

  • Limoncello
  • Prosecco: feel free to substitute with another sparkling wine, a Spanish Cava or a dry champagne.
  • Club soda: you can also use seltzer or sparkling water.

Plus if you want to get extra fancy, fresh lemon and mint as garnish.

What is limoncello?

Limoncello is a lemon liqueur originating from Southern Italy.

It's made by steeping fresh lemon zest in a highly concentrated grain alcohol until the oil from the zest is released. Once this happens, the vibrant yellow spirit is mixed with simple syrup.

Limoncello is traditionally served chilled as a digestivo (an after-dinner drink).

How to make a Limoncello Spritz

This limoncello spritz couldn't be any easier to make.

step by step photos of pouring ingredients for limoncello spritz into a cocktail glass.

Start by pouring chilled limoncello into a cocktail glass filled halfway with ice. If it's really hot where you live, you can also chill the glass ahead of time.

Next, pour in club soda.

Top off with prosecco and stir with a long bar spoon.

Garnish with lemon and fresh mint. Cheers!

Expert Tips and FAQ's

  • This limoncello spritz tastes best when all of the ingredients have been chilled in advance. You can chill the prosecco, limoncello and club soda ahead of time, and you can even chill the serving glasses if desired.
  • We like to garnish this cocktail with refreshing mint, but you can use another fresh herb like basil or thyme.
  • We don't suggest using a cocktail shaker for this recipe since two of the three ingredients are carbonated. However, if you need to quickly chill the limoncello, you can shake limoncello with ice for a few seconds for a quick fix. It will slightly dilute the alcohol, but it will help cool it down quickly before adding to this cocktail!

How should limoncello be stored?

Limoncello doesn't require refrigeration, but we highly recommend storing it in the fridge or freezer. Chilled limoncello is much more refreshing!

*Note: the high alcohol content prevents limoncello from freezing, so it can be stored in the freezer long-term.

What does limoncello taste like?

Limoncello has an intense lemon flavor, but it's surprisingly sweet. It doesn't have the sour/tartness of lemon juice, but it's more concentrated in flavor.

It's pretty strong, so depending on your preferences, you may want to adjust the quantities in this limoncello spritz to your liking!

How much alcohol is in limoncello?

Most limoncello falls between a 28-32% alcohol content. (For comparison, standard vodka is about 40%).

What are some other uses for limoncello?

- Pour some chilled limoncello over vanilla ice cream - yum!
-Add to a cake or cookies for a lemony flavor boost
-Add a splash to fruit salad
-Use it in a glaze or frosting
