Why we love this recipe

  • Easy to make: this passion fruit martini comes together with just 6 simple ingredients in about 5 minutes.
  • So refreshing! This cocktail instantly transports me to the beach in Miami. It's luxurious, bright, sweet and basically sunshine in a glass. Perfect for sipping poolside (if you're so lucky!).
  • Great for entertaining: you can make a big batch of the martini base ahead of time, refrigerate and pour just before serving. Great for a small party, holiday or date night at home!

Ingredients

You just need 6 simple ingredients to make this passion fruit martini:

  • Fresh passion fruit
  • Passion fruit flavored vodka
  • Pineapple or passion fruit juice
  • Lime juice
  • Simple syrup
  • Prosecco (optional)

Ingredient Notes

  • Passion fruit vodka: this is optional, but it adds a lot more flavor. We were able to find this flavor pretty easily at most liquor stores, but if you can't find any, regular vodka is perfectly fine. You can always add a bit more fresh passion fruit for extra flavor!
  • Passion fruit liqueur (passoa) is a common ingredient in passion fruit martini recipes, but we couldn't find it anywhere! It would certainly make a lovely addition to this cocktail, so if you're lucky enough to grab a bottle, feel free to add ½ to 1 oz of it to this recipe.
  • The same goes for passion fruit juice – it can be a bit tricky to find depending on where you live (we have a lot of trouble finding it here in Michigan). To make things easier, we sub in pineapple juice when we can't find passion fruit juice. It still tastes fantastic, but you can use either.
  • Freshly squeezed lime juice is always best in cocktail recipes.
  • Simple syrup: you can use store-bought or homemade. We've included the super quick & easy recipe in the FAQ section below.

How to make

This passion fruit martini recipe is so quick and easy to make!

step by step of making a passion fruit martini in cocktail shaker.

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.

Pour in vodka, pineapple or passion fruit juice, simple syrup and lime juice.

Slice each passion fruit in half and use a spoon to scoop out the seeds into the cocktail shaker.

Secure lid and shake vigorously for a slow count of 10-15 seconds. It's important to shake well so the passion fruit distributes throughout the cocktail.

Strain the passion fruit martini into two glasses and top off with about 1oz each of Prosecco. This is optional – it tastes great without, too. We just like a tiny but of fizz!

Expert Tips and FAQs

  • If you don't mind the texture of passion fruit seeds (I love them!), you don't have to strain them out when serving this cocktail.
  • You can make this passion fruit martini up to 2 days before serving. It won't taste quite as fresh after the first 12-24 hours, but it still tastes great! We suggest waiting to add the Prosecco/sparkling wine until just before serving so it doesn't go flat.
How do you make simple syrup?

Combine equal parts water and sugar (we typically use ½ cup of each) in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a low simmer and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool before using.

Where can you buy passion fruit?

Depending on where you live, passion fruit might be difficult (or very easy!) to find. Here in Michigan, it's not available at most standard grocery stores, but it's typically in stock at specialty stores like Whole Foods.

How can you tell if passion fruit is ripe?

The more wrinkly the skin, the more ripe the passion fruit. A passion fruit with completely smooth skin is likely not ripe and will be very sour, which will negatively affect the taste of this martini.

You can also tell by the color. A green passion fruit is probably not yet ripe, whereas a darker purple or red passion fruit likely is more ripe.

Description

This Passion Fruit Martini has it all: sweet, tangy, refreshing and just SO good! It's quick and easy to make and perfect for anything from entertaining to Friday date night at home.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz passion fruit vodka*
  • 2 oz pineapple juice (or passion fruit juice)
  • 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup*
  • 4 fresh passion fruits, halved
  • 2 oz sparkling wine or prosecco

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Pour in vodka, pineapple or passion fruit juice, lime juice and simple syrup.
  2. Using a spoon, scoop the passion fruit seeds and juice out of each passion fruit and pour into the cocktail shaker. Seal and shake vigorously for a slow count of 10-15 seconds. You want to make sure the passion fruit seeds really get distributed throughout the cocktail.
  3. Strain the cocktail into 2 martini glasses. Top off each glass with 1 oz of Prosecco. Serve with a passion fruit sliced in half atop each drink (or scoop out the seeds and add straight to the drink).

Notes

*Passion fruit vodka: this is optional, but it adds a lot more flavor. If you can't find any, regular vodka is perfectly fine. You can always add a bit more fresh passion fruit for extra flavor!

*Simple syrup: Store bought simple syrup is easiest, but it's super easy to make from scratch, too. Combine equal parts water and sugar (we typically use ½ cup of each) in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a low simmer and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool before using.

Passion fruit liqueur (passoa) is a common ingredient in passion fruit martini recipes, but we couldn't find it anywhere! It would certainly make a lovely addition to this cocktail, so if you're lucky enough to grab a bottle, feel free to add ½ to 1 oz of it to this recipe.

Passion fruit juice can be hard to find, so we often sub in pineapple juice. It still tastes fantastic, but you can use either.

You can make this passion fruit martini up to 2 days before serving. We suggest waiting to add the Prosecco/sparkling wine until just before serving so it doesn't go flat.
