Transport yourself straight to a tropical island with this guava cocktail spiked with pineapple-infused rum! It's sweet, tangy, refreshing and always a hit at parties and holidays.
This year, we're planning on sharing at least one new cocktail recipe per month. We absolutely love crafting homemade cocktails, homemade infused liquors, simple syrups, etc.
You won't find any fake margarita mix in our house. We always try to use the highest quality, freshest produce ingredients, and we try not skimp on the quality of alcohol. Higher quality ingredients = better cocktails. Always.
This Guava Rum Cocktail is the perfect example of a cocktail that really benefits from the freshest possible ingredients and a bit of time and effort. Homemade pineapple-infused rum adds so much flavor, and it's well worth the extra time.
In addition to infused rum, all you need is some guava juice, freshly squeezed lime juice and a dash of orange liqueur. That's it! So refreshing. So tropical. So fruity. SO. DELICIOUS.
Homemade Pineapple-Infused Rum
We first shared the recipe for pineapple-infused rum in this post on how to infuse just about any kind of liquor. Infused liquors make for an excellent gift, and they're actually incredibly easy to make.
Read the full post to learn more, but for this recipe, all you have to do is infuse some fresh pineapple in your favorite white rum. Fill a large glass jar with fresh pineapple, fill with rum, seal and let infuse for about a week. Strain the rum into a clean jar using a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve.
There you have it! An entire bottle of the most delicious, fruity pineapple infused rum. It would also be great in this Pineapple Coconut Mango Rum Punch, or this homemade Long Island Iced Tea.
Ingredients & swaps
- If you don't have time/don't want to make the pineapple-infused rum, use your favorite regular rum. To add the extra sweetness, you may want to add an ounce or two of pineapple juice.
- Orange liqueur adds extra fruity, boozy flavor. We typically use Cointreau, Triple Sec or Grand Marnier.
- Freshly squeezed lime juice is essential. Please, for the love of god, do not use the stuff that comes in a plastic bottle. It's just not the same, and your cocktail will majorly benefit from freshly squeezed citrus.
- Guava. Of course, if you have access to fresh guava, definitely use that! I almost never find fresh guava here in metro Detroit, so we instead opt for guava juice or nectar. Just look for something that's 100% juice, without a ton of added sugars/preservatives.
Shaken or stirred?
Shaken is best for this cocktail. It's the best way to evenly distribute all of the liquids.
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. You can either serve it in a chilled cocktail glass or over crushed ice.
We garnished ours with gorgeous pink lemons, which is totally optional. Regular limes or lemons will do the trick!

Solid. Really really solid personally I think it goes better with lemon instead of lime but both work really well, I also personally feel like a lil less guava juice would do wonders as it's a lil overpowering in 4oz but I really really enjoyed this and will definately make this again.
