Ingredients
Here are the 3 ingredients you'll need to make this cranberry mimosa:
Ingredient Notes
- Cranberry juice: since we're also using a simple syrup in this recipe, it's best to opt for unsweetened cranberry juice. This also allows you to control the sweetness of the mimosa while also highlighting the natural tartness of the cranberries. It should be fairly easy to find in your grocery store (typically right next to the apple juice).
- Sparkling wine: For this recipe, we're using Prosecco, but any sparkling wine will work just fine. Feel free to use Champagne in this recipe (it just tends to be more expensive). Sparkling rosé would be another great option.
- Simple syrup: If you don't have simple syrup on hand or feel like making it at home, feel free to sub 1:1 with maple syrup or agave syrup. To make simple syrup from scratch, combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Then remove from heat and let cool.
How to Make a Cranberry Mimosa
(1) Add the cranberry juice and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake well.
(2) (Optional) Rim the glasses in sprinkles or sugar for garnish.
(3) Add the cranberry mixture to a champagne glass and top with sparkling wine! Garnish with a cranberry or two and a sprig of rosemary.
Make Cranberry Mimosas for a Crowd
The typical pitcher holds about 60 fl oz or about 1.8 liters. To make this recipe for a crowd, you'll need to multiply this recipe about 8 times. So you'll need:
- 1 ~60 fl oz pitcher
- 32 fl oz sparkling wine
- 16 fl oz unsweetened cranberry juice
- 8 oz simple syrup
Add the cranberry juice and simple syrup to the pitcher and whisk well, then pour in the sparkling wine. There's no need to stir to combine everything.
Tips and FAQs
- Garnish: Adding a garnish gives these cocktails a little something special. We love adding in a sprig of thyme or some sugared cranberries.
- Add a fun rim: The options for decor on these cocktails is limitless, so feel free to add a fun rim to your glass. We love dipping ours in a little bit of agave and coating with a festive sprinkle or coarse sugar.
- Everything tastes best chilled: For the most refreshing cocktail, chill all of the components of this cranberry mimosa for several hours before assembling. Since there are only 3 ingredients in this cocktail, having chilled ingredients makes a big difference. You can even chill the champagne flutes if you'd like!
- Serve in champagne flutes: This is the classic treatment for a mimosa, and they're specifically designed to retain the carbonation of the sparkling wine.
- No need to stir: Whether you're making these in individual glasses or in a pitcher, don't stir the sparkling wine together with the rest of the ingredients. Simply pouring it in will mix everything sufficiently.
- Skip the simple syrup: If you don't want to use simple syrup, just use a sweetened cranberry juice instead.
- Orange liqueur: For an extra boost of flavor, you can add in ½ - 1 fl oz of an orange liqueur like Grand Marnier to this recipe.
- Enjoy with: holiday brunch favorites, like our cranberry crumb bars, carrot lox and bagel board, polenta "eggs" benedict or carrot cake baked oatmeal.
Sparkling wine can only be called champagne if it comes from a specific region in France (not surprisingly called Champagne!). In other words, all champagne is sparkling wine, but not all sparkling wine is champagne. It all has to do with where the wine is produced!
So, if you're not sure whether to use sparkling wine, or true champagne in these cranberry mimosas, rest assured that either is perfectly fine!
Bring equal parts sugar and water to a simmer in a small saucepan, stir until sugar dissolves, remove from heat and let cool. Simple syrup stores well in the refrigerator, so we love making a big batch for later use.
