Why We Love This Recipe

  • Quick and easy: This cocktail only requires 5 ingredients and 5 minutes to make. It's quick, simple, and doesn't require any special techniques or equipment.
  • Citrus paradise: With 3 different fresh citrus juices, this cocktail has an awesome sweet-sour-nutty flavor that's incredibly refreshing and well-balanced.
  • Great way to use Amaretto: Amaretto the most common spirit, but it has a unique and delicious nutty flavor. This cocktail is the perfect way to show off it's sweet, rich, almond-y taste.

Ingredients

Here's what you'll need to make this amaretto stone sour:

Amaretto stone sour ingredients including citrus juices, amaretto, and simple syrup.
Just five ingredients!

Ingredient Notes

  • Amaretto: Since this is the star ingredient of this cocktail, make sure to use a good quality Amaretto for the best flavor. Common brands include Disaronno, di Amore, and Gozio.
  • Lemon and lime juice: Freshly-squeezed citrus juice goes a long way towards creating the best-flavored cocktail.
  • Simple syrup: You can also sub 1:1 with agave syrup. To make it from scratch, simply combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Then remove from heat and let cool.
  • Sour mix: Other recipes may call for using a "sour mix" - which is just lemon and lime juice plus simple syrup. So while we don't specifically reference it here, you'll make a sour mix without even knowing it! If you're short on time, you could use store bought, but fresh is a lot better.

Instructions

(1) Add all ingredients except maraschino cherry juice to a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well for 10-15 seconds.

(2) Pour into a glass half filled with ice. Add a touch of maraschino cherry juice and garnish with a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry.

Tips and FAQs

  • Garnish ideas: We love using an orange wedge and a maraschino cherry to reinforce the sweet and citrusy flavors of this cocktail.
  • No cocktail shaker? Add everything to a mason jar, add the lid, shake, and serve.
  • When to serve: This cocktail is perfect for brunches, Mother's day, Father's day, and any summery special occasions.
  • Serve on the rocks: This cocktail is best served over ice.
What is Amaretto?

Italian for a "little bitter", Amaretto is an almond-flavored Italian liqueur that's sweet, nutty and slightly bitter. Common uses for Amaretto include Amaretto Sours and Italian Coffees.

What's the difference between an Amaretto Sour and an Amaretto Stone Sour?

The two are closely related. An Amaretto Sour contains Amaretto (obviously), lemon and lime juice, simple syrup, lemon lime soda, and sometimes bourbon and egg whites. An Amaretto stone sour swaps out the lemon lime soda for orange juice, and leaves out the egg whites.

What's in a sweet and sour mix?

A sweet and sour mix combines equal parts of simple syrup, lemon juice, and lime juice. So if you ever see a recipe that calls for one, just remember this recipe!
