Ingredients
Here's what you'll need to make this amaretto stone sour:
Ingredient Notes
- Amaretto: Since this is the star ingredient of this cocktail, make sure to use a good quality Amaretto for the best flavor. Common brands include Disaronno, di Amore, and Gozio.
- Lemon and lime juice: Freshly-squeezed citrus juice goes a long way towards creating the best-flavored cocktail.
- Simple syrup: You can also sub 1:1 with agave syrup. To make it from scratch, simply combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Then remove from heat and let cool.
- Sour mix: Other recipes may call for using a "sour mix" - which is just lemon and lime juice plus simple syrup. So while we don't specifically reference it here, you'll make a sour mix without even knowing it! If you're short on time, you could use store bought, but fresh is a lot better.

Italian for a "little bitter", Amaretto is an almond-flavored Italian liqueur that's sweet, nutty and slightly bitter. Common uses for Amaretto include Amaretto Sours and Italian Coffees.
The two are closely related. An Amaretto Sour contains Amaretto (obviously), lemon and lime juice, simple syrup, lemon lime soda, and sometimes bourbon and egg whites. An Amaretto stone sour swaps out the lemon lime soda for orange juice, and leaves out the egg whites.
A sweet and sour mix combines equal parts of simple syrup, lemon juice, and lime juice. So if you ever see a recipe that calls for one, just remember this recipe!
