Vegan Hot Chocolate 5 Ways

Description

We took our creamy, rich, delicious simple hot chocolate recipe and gave it an upgrade with a few variations. The flavors include: peppermint, orange bourbon, mocha and peanut butter cup. 


Ingredients

Classic Base Recipe:

  • 1 1/2 cups plain nondairy milk (oat, cashew, almond, etc)
  • 1/2 cup plain nondairy creamer*
  • 3 tbsp hemp seeds (optional)
  • 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Peppermint Hot Chocolate:

  • Classic hot chocolate recipe (above)
  • 3/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • For topping: candy cane, whipped cream, mini marshmallows, chocolate shavings, etc

Bourbon Orange Hot Chocolate:

  • Classic hot chocolate recipe (above)
  • 3/4 oz bourbon
  • 1/4 oz Cointreau or another orange liqueur
  • For topping: orange zest/peel, whipped cream, chocolate shavings

Mocha Hot Chocolate:

  • Classic hot chocolate recipe (above)
  • 2 oz freshly brewed espresso
  • For topping: chocolate sauce, chocolate covered espresso beans, whipped cream, mini marshmallows

Peanut Butter Cup Hot Chocolate: 

  • Classic hot chocolate recipe (above)
  • 2 tbsp creamy peanut butter
  • For topping: chopped peanuts, peanut butter cups, marshmallows, chocolate cookies, shaved chocolate, caramel sauce, etc.


Instructions

Classic Base Recipe:

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until completely smooth and creamy. You may need to scrape down the sides of the blender to fully incorporate the cocoa powder. 
  2. Pour into a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, whisking frequently, until warmed. Add toppings and enjoy! 

All other recipe variations:

  1. Add extra ingredients to blender and follow instructions above.
