Notes
*Rum: You can really use any variety in this cocktail; it mostly depends on your preferences. For an option that's most similar to a classic moscow mule, we suggest white rum. For something with a bit more flavor, try an aged rum. If you love the flavor of spiced dark rum, you can also use that – it will just change the flavor of the cocktail. Whichever variety you decide to use, make sure it's good quality. Since there are only 4 ingredients in this cocktail, the flavor will definitely shine through.
Mocktail (non-alcoholic) version: Substitute the rum with extra lime juice and ginger beer. Alternatively, you can sub rum with a nonalcoholic spirit alternative, like this alcohol-free rum. It's surprisingly similar to the real thing!
Simple syrup: You can use store-bought simple syrup to cut down on prep time, but it's also super easy to make from scratch. Simply combine equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan and heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. Let the simple syrup cool before adding to your cocktail. Agave nectar is a great substitute.
Garnish: This rum Moscow mule looks great garnished with a simple lime wedge and/or sprig of mint, but you can also serve it up plain.
