Description

This Pumpkin Spice Margarita is the cocktail recipe you need in your life this fall. It's an unexpected flavor combination, but it's absolutely delicious, perfectly balanced, easy to make and has a cinnamon sugar rim that you can't skip!

Ingredients

Units Scale

Pumpkin Spice Margaritas:

  • 6 ounces reposado tequila
  • 2 ounces Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or another orange liqueur
  • 4 ounces orange juice
  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 ounces pumpkin spice simple syrup (store-bought or use recipe in notes section for homemade)

Rim (optional):

  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 1/2-2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1-1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, cinnamon, and salt on a small, flat plate. Pour a small amount of maple syrup on another small plate. Dip the rim of the glass in a bit of maple syrup.

  2. Next, dip the glasses into the sugar and salt mixture and fill the glass halfway with ice.

  3. Add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

  4. Shake well for at least 10 seconds. Strain into the glass and enjoy!

Notes

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup: Add 1 cup maple syrup, 1 cup water and 1/2 cup pumpkin puree to a small saucepan over medium high heat and whisk well. Add in seeds from 1 vanilla bean pod (or 2 tsp vanilla extract), 4 whole cinnamon sticks, 1 tbsp fresh minced ginger and 1 tsp of whole cloves. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let the mixture sit for 15-30 minutes. Strain the simple syrup through a fine mesh sieve. Get as much liquid out as you possibly can, then transfer to a mason jar or other sealed container for storage.

Orange & lime juice: Freshly squeezed is always best for maximum flavor and freshness.

Make ahead: if you're serving these for a crowd, feel free to multiply the ingredients and mix everything up ahead of time. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Be sure to shake or stir well again before serving so everyone gets a well balanced drink! You can make up to 24 hours ahead of time.

Tequila: We used reposado tequila in this recipe. Reposado is aged in oak barrels, which gives it a slightly oaky/vanilla/honey-like flavor. This makes it the perfect pairing for fall flavors. You can also use silver/blanco tequila if preferred.

Cinnamon sugar rim: the rim is optional, but encouraged! It's delicious and adds a fun extra flair. You can also just use a regular salt rim, or no rim at all.
