Description

This bourbon peach smash is my idea of the perfect summer cocktail – easy to make, refreshing, well balanced, and a great use of seasonal produce! With just 5 simple ingredients, it's great for entertaining or slow sipping on a hot afternoon.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup peeled and diced ripe peaches (~2 peaches)
  • 1 1/2 ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 ounces bourbon
  • 6 ounces ginger beer (3 ounces per cocktail)
  • Fresh basil and peach slice for garnish

Instructions

  1. Add the peaches, lemon juice, and brown sugar to a blender and blend until smooth.*
  2. Strain through a fine mesh sieve (optional), then add to a cocktail shaker half filled with ice, add bourbon, and shake well.
  3. Pour into a chilled glass and top off with ginger beer. Garnish with basil and a fresh peach slice and enjoy.

Notes

*Instead of blending, you can also muddle the peaches, brown sugar and lemon juice with a muddler directly in the cocktail glass. Add the bourbon and ice and stir well before topping off with ginger beer.

Straining: If you strain the peach puree, you'll end up with a normal juice-based cocktail consistency. If you don't strain it, the liquid will be a bit thicker and more syrupy, which I personally really enjoy! It's totally up to you and will still taste great either way.

Be sure to use super ripe peaches in this recipe. If they aren't ripe, the flavor and sweetness may differ.

Ginger beer: you can also sub with seltzer, sparkling water or club soda.
